Idem
con Patate
„We will never arrive anywhere if we (place) identity* as a starting point. The whole process of becoming is a process of abandoning identity…“
(= The same with potatoes). An acoustic battle plan against „the same“.
For Idem con patate (literally: the same thing with potatoes), colleagues Livia Piazza and Heike Bröckerhoff speculate on whether and how they can get rid of or shed off some layers of their identity? Why do they do this? They assume that most concepts of identity are rather harmful. Identity functions through borders and exclusion and prevents solidary togetherness. What forms of belonging lie beyond "Idem", beyond "the same"? To find out, Piazza, who grew up in Milan and spends her summer holidays in Sicily, and Bröckerhoff, who comes from the Lower Rhine, develop a battle plan. It is stuffed with speculative methods inspired by post-humanist and feminist thinkers, the ocean and a chameleon.
They share this plan with their audience in a lecture that keeps getting off track. On this journey of digression the two voices travel from theoretical concepts to auto-ethnographic ventures. They cross European landscapes from their childhood, hike on artificial mountains and make use of fictional guns. With a backpack full of privileges, they may also learn how to swim in the waves of hydrofeminism. And if their plan works out, afterwards no one will know which voice actually belongs to whom.
The script for this episode has been created in 2021. Production of the episode is planned for 2022/2023.
Idem con Patate is a research initiated by Heike Bröckerhoff in collaboration with Livia Piazza.
